The book is far from an objective overview of what was happening in Russia in the second half of the 90^th. But it is good book for person of critical thinking. It would be very helpful reading to investors and corporate decision-makers with an eye on Russian market if they remember to filter personal biases of the author. The book is full of facts and stories that can be interpreted in multiple ways. Russian is not only land of opportunity and wealth it is almost another planet that can reward risk takers from wherever they come.

Written by an American author who happens to be a son of one of the most conservative political advisors to President Carter. It is apparent that the son shares his father’s political views and philosophy. He failed to learn or refused to learn and "go native" (the term of adopting values, language and customs of the country). But the book has its merit. The conclusion of this book is that if you are conservative, religious, traditional American - you will not find a place in Russia. Russia is not for missionaries. It is for people who can ‘go native’ as did Catherine the Great in her time.
